When we arrived at Kamloops and found the House next door to where we stayed painted a Salmon congratulated the owner on his tourist patriotism commenting what a Bright idea on someone in the province s part to suggest the Pink paint. The new Hospital will nol be called Grace Hospital but will operate under a name still to be decided by salvation National Headquarters in Toronto. Tenders for the building will be called As soon As preliminary drawings have been completed and approved by the Manitoba Hospital commission and sketch plans and specifications have been drawn up. The new Hospital which will be one of the most modern in North America is expected to Cost million. It is to be situated North of Portage Avenue and East of Vic Toria Street on the Western out skirts of St. James and is expected to be completed by late 1965, or Early 1966. It will be fully air conditioned and will contain a 20-bed pedal Ries Ward and a 20-bed teen Ager Vard. The building program will be financed on the basis of 80 per cent in Grants and Loans from the ederal and provincial govern cents. And 20 per cent from the Ity of St. James and the Salva Ion . The 20 per cent will be covered largely by a bylaw proved in 1962 by St. James rate Ayers. The Hospital will be on a 20 acre site. Police Are trying to Contact anyone who knew or. Knock Wood. A change of procedure in the hiring of upper salaried employees of the Winnipeg school Board squeezed by on a one vote margin tuesday. Trustee Andrew Moore brought Forth the Resolution to provide for interviews by the Board after declaring that the present meth ods of appointment were rubber there had been some bad appointments made he said. His Resolution passed by a vote of 8 to 7. Under the new procedures the superintendent of the Board will make a confidential report to the Board with a list of the applicants for upper salaried positions. It will include All information on each candidate and list them in order of preference but will make no recommendation As to appointment. The Board will then consider the list and if necessary conduct interviews with candidates they select. Under present procedures the superintendent submits a list of applicants to the Board with his recommendation on an appoint ment. Trustee residents demand modified High Rise concerned Home owners in Birchwood Heights won t know for another two weeks whether a million High Rise apartment Block will be constructed in their area. St. James Council tuesday night tabled further discussion on the matter until the next Council meeting. The apartment Block which the Borger Lount co. Has an option to build on the South Side of Portage Avenue near Moray Street has been under criticism from irate Home owners who fear the projected Block is too big for the Birchwood Heights District. Original plans for the project which would be known As Pine Wood Terrace called for a nine Storey Block but residents Are now pressing for a modified ver Sion Only five storeys High. A second plan a 21-member delegation appeared before Council to reiterate their stand against the proposed apartment Block. A representative of Borger Lount co. Showed Council a Sec Ond plan for the Block which his company Felt would satisfy the Home owners. This plan curved the Block towards Portage ave me so that the distance Between the Block and the nearest would be greatly increased. The Home owners however insisted that the Block be reduced n size As Well. Different Mem Bers of the delegation chastised Council for not protecting the rights of St. James Home owners and were cheered on by loud clapping from the remainder of their group. Aid. A. H. The councillors on the commit tee agreed with staff engineers that there was no valid reason place them on Road allow ances.
