Evans tells everybody what a great Job he s done but he let Tea name its own committee to study the pro posed move. Or. Desjardins noted that the minister had claimed credit for the breakthrough in 1960 which uncovered the airline s plans to move. Why he wait this Long if he knew in he asked. Or. Schreyer said he was in agreement with the Aims of the government Effort to keep Tea in Manitoba but questioned its the government he said is quite voluble now about the need to retain the base but it was not so concerned in the past. Two or three years ago they were just making Low moans to their friends in "1 got the distinct impression they were being bothered by this but were not being very demand when former prime minister John Diefenbaker was in Power i t see him make any great to do about what could be done to make Tea keep the Over haul base or. Schreyer said there was a grave inconsistency in the government s approach to the ques Tion. Who is the first to howl when Tea shows an operating deficit my honorable friends opposite. The ones opposed to the concept of Public ownership. They Are also the ones to cry out when a Crown corporation in order not to have a deficit adopts methods of the nip he said was the Only party consistent enough to say that if a Crown corporation produces a deficit in the Public interest then that s what pub Lic funds and tax funds Are or. Schreyer said he not blame Tea president Gordon Mcgregor for the move. He was under tremendous pressure from people like my honorable friends opposite who scream and shout every time a Crown corporation has to be subsidized by the Public the government was also in consistent he in adopting a hands off policy towards its own Public Utility Manitoba Hydro and yet demanding that the Federal government interfere i the operations of Tea. More about Hospital continued from Page 1 among some of the Many areas of deficiency listed by the Hospital in the Brief Are patient safety is jeopardized because he stairway serving the original building is open contrary to a request from the fire department to enclose it. It is also not wide enough to permit moving a Stretcher and the stairs Don t have treads. Environment in the build ing is inadequate because floors Are in poor condition lighting is poor making for dark rooms and corridors ventilation is in adequate causing draughts in Winter and extreme heat in sum Mer. Electrical facilities Are in adequate. Patient bed traffic is impossible because corridors Are Only three feet eight inches wide instead of the recommended eight feet. The elevator is too Small and its doors too narrow. There Are no water fountains. In the new Section of the building ceiling tile material is not fire resistant. There is no sprinkler system. Inadequate space in patient rooms creates difficulties in providing proper care. Building standards recommend four Beds be the maximum allotted to a room but the Hospital has 12 rooms with five Beds in each acid four rooms with seven Beds in each. Because of the nature of the building patients Are subjected to noises from such things As truck deliveries sirens Lawn mowers corridor activity and elevator doors. Rooms in one part of the build ing Are also subject to the smell of waste products in the Lane because there is no refrigerated waste disposal room. They Are also subjected to the effect of Coal dust from Coal deliveries to the boiler room. Although it is recommended each patient room have a lavatory individual clothes closets and separate toilet facilities very few rooms in the hos Pital have a Basin and none have either a clothes closet or lavatory. There is an average of one Bathtub to 27 patients on the first floor one to s3 on the second and third floors. There is one toilet for .10 patients and four out of every five toilets have no sink there Are no Shower facilities and Only one Public lavatory in the basement. There Are no patient Call facilities in the nursing stations and nurses Chart desks Are in corridors. The surgical department is located so that there is traffic through it to other parts of the building. The operating room tables Are inadequate one of them requiring extensive repair every second Day. The recovery room is in adequate being Only 272 Square feet and handling up to seven patients at Peak loads. With proper standards the recovery room should be 560 Square feet. In the obstetrical depart ment a main stairway carries traffic through the area there Are no showers for patients in the labor rooms. The flow of patient and visitor traffic clean and soiled supplies and materials crisscrossed through the area and there Are no facilities for handling patients with complications such As bleeding. The Nursery door is close to a stairway and the Central Supply department thus enhancing the possibility of contamination. The main a Ray apparatus has been condemned by the i engineering company servicing it. A second a Ray unit is in a precarious maritime labor peace could not be obtained unless Banks and his executive were removed but the trustees Are working toward peace in a different Way. The Norris report condemned Siu methods of putting pressure on smaller shipping companies with walkouts described by the Union As prayer a term used when sailors left their ships to take part in the Siu March on Ottawa last octo Ber to protest the trusteeship. These walkouts have been banned by the trustees. The Federal inquiry report objected to control Over ship Manning exercised by the Siu through its control of hiring Halls. The trustees have curbed this Power by ordering Siu port agents to refrain from replacing one Sailor by another with out prior approval of the trus tees. From now on sailors can be removed from ships Only by asks Yemen Extension United nations Thor Stative sources said Secre tary general u Thant asked saudi Arabia and the United Arab Republic Friday to agree to another two month Extension of the United nations limited observation Mission in Yemen. They said . Ambassador Mahmoud Riad agreed on the spot and saudi ambassador Jamil m. Baroody referred the question to his government. The observation Mission which includes canadians has been in Yemen since last july 4 to oversee withdrawal of . Troops and saudi Aid from the yemeni Republican royalist civil War. Management. The sailors May contest their removal through Normal grievances procedures. Decisions in such appeals must be approved by the trustees. This still leaves the Siu in control of hiring Halls but labor minister Maceachen said recently legislation is being studied to place hiring under strict government supervision As recommended by the Norris report. 1964 immediate Possession a wide Range of bungalows Tri Levels by Levels and 2 storeys Are available As Low As Cash required.
