I by Gene Telpner in saturday s paper one of my assignments was to write a summary of Jack Ludwig s article about Winnipeg which appears in the forthcoming april Issue of Holiday Magazine. Although a great Many people Are bound to disagree with or. Ludwig s interpretation of the City my feeling is that he is writing of the Winnipeg of Days gone by. I can t agree with him completely because our City is growing faster than most of us imagine. There Are so Many things coming up so Many i changes that have taken place in the past few years to completely eradicate the Winnipeg that or. Ludwig re Calls so nostalgically. When my family moved Here from the u.s., the Royal Alexandra and the fort Garry hotels were just about the Only popular eating places we had and that s less than 15 years ago. Now look what s happened so Many Fine restaurants you Don t know where to Start. And there s much More in the future. Near the Airport there will be a Plush motor hotel with what is projected to be a fabulous restaurant. A downtown Motel will add almost a dozen new floors a Folk singing Coffee shop is in the works and another Long closed restaurant is in the process of being reopened. We have a Long Way to go but we be gone a Long Way. Regardless there s much More to Winni Peg than just Salami and Rye bread. But then what s wrong with that mixture coupled with a dash of hot Mustard people and places notes from a columnist s diary several people have phoned to ask Why there Are not More signs on Portage Avenue and other streets pointing the Way to the Airport. Said one caller we spend millions on a Beautiful new terminal but not ten cents on a sign pointing the he s got something there. Frankie Laine who is a possibility for a Rainbow stage role Here opens March 9 at the Riviera in Las vegas.
