Weir said the bypass South of p Portage will be designed for four lanes along with frontage roads and for an ultimate Grade interchange at the South port Road. The bypass will rejoin the trans Canada Highway West of Portage just beyond a drive in theatre. The Public works minister said another direction interchange will be built near the drive in theatre. Twin Bridges will carry traffic Over the Channel. The minister said the express Way would provide a better traffic flow and safety Over the Hea Vily travelled portion of the trans Canada Highway Between Winnipeg and Portage. The provincial government s expressway program stems from the planned acquisition of the Ca Nadian National railways right of Way on the Cabot subdivision which runs by Elie Iliad Fortier. The province has been negotiating with the car for several years in an attempt to Purchase the land. The right of Way has been used Only for certain one Way rail traffic while the main transcontinental line about a mile away was being equipped with Central traffic control devices. With the Cabot line no longer needed the car has applied to the Federal government to Dis continue service on the right of Way because the main line serves the same subdivision. Or. Weir has asked transport minister W. Pickersgill to re quest the Board of transport com missioners to hear the car s application for abandoning the line. A final decision by the Board could be made by dec. 31 and the car would then be Able to lift the track during the Winter to allow the provincial govern ment to get an Early Start on that part of the expressway.
