Copyright 1964, better Homes and gardens Long before a child is ready for school he should have the Opportunity to express what he feels in action. All children to pretend. They want to act like the postman or a dog a lion or even like an angry person. In trying to show How he believes this person thinks feels or acts the child will tramp methodically As does the Post Man put the pretend mail up in a Box and tramp away shifting his heavy sack. He trots like a dog making pretend barks or roars like a lion or makes ugly faces and throws himself around in pretend anger. This is All a creative expression of How he imagines a per son or animal feels and acts. It is to be encouraged. It makes the child feel Good when he has scored a hit and his audience that s just like our mail it stretches his imagination to try to put himself in another person s shoes and act As he thinks he would. Use costumes if children have costumes they can put on a show and that makes their pretend perform Ance More realistic. The individual who never has an Opportunity to express his feelings either verbally or in action be comes less sympathetic less understanding since he has no exercise of his imagination. All of a child s experiences Are enriched when he can recreate them in words or bodily move ments. For this he needs an appreciative audience one to whom he can say i bet you Don t know what i am Tell me what you think i am then he expects Praise for his efforts and ingenuity and this whips up his enthusiasm to try again to put his thoughts and feelings into tangible form. Everything a child does feels pretending Good for children cos1sa More Pojta Moke Finkleman optometrists eyes examined classes fitted 2nd floor Kensington bldg. 275 Portage at phone we 2-2496 hours . If you do nothing but prop your feet up in a chair and stare at the ceiling at least do that. You can keep your Friend s children an hour or so once a week for a few weeks. Let those traded hours pile up and when you have three or four take off for a movie. That s a Don t share these few Golden hours with a neighbor or Friend. Then it becomes Busi Ness again.
