Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - December 24, 1964, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press thursday december 24, 1964 ii policemen on the beat at part for patients Doreen Lundie a pretty 11-year-old Eskimo girl from fort Churchill was or Centre of attraction monday afternoon at the 6fh annual Christmas party for polio patients sponsored by the Winnipeg police athletic association. Ais party at the Craf sergeant s mess were from left patients Bert Burnham and Paul Eryca stand ing association members Bob Fulton and. Maurice Moe Hinam who chaired the party. Doreen expects that a spinal fusion will soon enable her to walk child can be trained to obey parents mrs. J. V. Tells How she keeps everything and told them not to her three Little ones under control i have just finished Reading one of your articles and agree with you that a child has to be trained not Only where he can go but what he must not touch. I have three babies three two and one. If i always had to watch them i would never get a by work done. We live on a Busy Street at the top of a Hill. You can see i have had to teach them to stay within certain boundaries. This training began As soon As the baby started crawling. I Don t have Many Knick Knacks about the House because i Don t want to dust them but i Don t worry about those within reach. I have Learned the time taken to teach them not is time Well spent. To this was brought Home to me clearly last month Mother is not Well and my has never seen her grandchildren so we visited her. She has a Low Coffee table with pictures and a Candy dish. As soon As we arrived i took the two oldest children to it showed them ladies Wear 231 Portage ave. Touch. Mom had been for putting everything away out of reach but i talked her out of it. At first i watched carefully. Not once did either of them Hurt anything. When the Little one began to touch i slapped his hand and said no he soon Learned to leave it alone too. We had a Nice visit and i came Home proud of i know you must have been and your Mother too. But there is More to Good behaviour than you mention. I am sure you Are patient understanding and Lov ing with them As Well As firm. This is the secret. Then whatever method you use to show disapproval and to make the child stay within limits is less important. I hate to see a child slapped. But i know it works with some mothers. So does removing the child s hand shaking the head and using some substitute at traction provided the child is allowed to touch and see and satisfy his curiosity first. Destructive children there always Are More deter mined children and More destructive ones. With some of these there will be More accidents and More necessity to put tilings aside temporarily. It seems As though when there Are several Small children Jujj they learn from each other not Only what to do and what not to do but to accept the controls that Are necessary and the punishment that May follow. In this family there is no time to be permissive and consistency pays off. This is one of the advantages to having Brothers and Sisters. Thank you so much for taking time to write when your children Aren t obedient How do you punish them Are you helping them when you do punish them for help in this area of Parent child relationship read mrs. Eldred s Booklet obedience and punishment. To obtain your copy Send 10 cents and a stamped self addressed envelope with your request to Myrtle Meyer Eldred in care of the Winnipeg free press. These coppers arrayed in snazzy jackets of Manitoba tartan were the life of the party and a far cry from the dignified uniformed keepers of the peace Winni Eggers Are accustomed to seeing. But there were some uniforms in evidence too. One package of it makes twice As much As we can eat for one meal and Macaroni just in t quite As Good warmed so i decided to div Ide it. I Laid the foil package of cheese on the counter and Flat tried it with my hand. With a knife Blade i pushed Down across the Centre of the pack age and the cheese moved Back from the Centre. I Cut the foil across this indentation turned the Cut Edge foil Over on one of the halves of the Metal package rolled it up As far As 3. Could and set the package aside i took the other half plus half the Mac Aroni and prepared it for Din Ner. Now i have half the cheese and half the Macaroni left Over to be freshly prepared for another meal. This method would also work on other foil wrapped items such As French on Ion soup mix when you Only want to make half the recipe of soup or dip Etc.
