Children require a grandmother i wishes i would write about training Chil dren1 not to be destructive. If a child is allowed to 6reak everything and she writes and is never told How to take care of his things when he is older he will be destructive. When the Mother fails to give training Why should she be amazed that he does t care for and value his possessions if a child of two is not taught to sit at the table and eat properly Why should the Mother be upset when he won t do it at five years of age it would help mothers if you would explain this. My daughter reads your column and possibly it might impress i wish i could do what you wish but my idea of training and yours Are different i am sure. I am not sold on the idea that just constant repetition of something Over and Over is go tag to result in its being done just As repeated. That is Tod mechanical a method. Children Are not like dumb animals who re peat certain behaviour until Learned. A child is an observant and reasoning person and there Are Many motivations for his conduct which prevent training alone being the answer to his behaviour. By observation children note what adults and other children about them do v they tend to do As they Lee other do. When intelligent training 1 want something done our Way we the Way we do and we expect them if old enough to follow our example and our explanations. Toys Are often so fragile that they fall apart in the rough hands of children. They do not know values As adults do. But they can see How adults do handle their possessions and it will have an influence on them when they Are old enough. Sturdy toys the Small child s toys should be sturdy and also the Type of toy which can come apart and go together again without being destroyed. Blocks construction toys Clay Stout wooden toys All of these lend themselves to the Way children handle them which is to Hammer to step on to pile up arid throw Down. The child of two has a hard time sitting through an adult length meal. Why subject him to such a trial let him get up and run around Between courses. When he is older and less rest less he can break the stretch by helping to bring or the Des Sert or Clear the table. If exposed to Good the table and to careful treatment of adult treasures a child will adopt these attitudes eventually. If you have problems with babies or want to share your solution to seme write to.
