Coffee break 7 by Gene Telpner did you know there was once a Gold Rush in Manitoba in the Minitonas area to be exact and it was in january of 1912. It was t just an Ordinary Gold Rush but started when a Good sized Gold Nugget was found in a Turkey s crop. The news spread like wild fire Clear across Canada and the ., and in a very Short time the town of Minitonas was besieged. First it was mostly prospectors from Manitoba then pretty soon they started to pour in from Saskatchewan and Ontario. I m indebted to mrs. Thomas Martin our free press correspondent in that area for bringing me up to Date on this historical curiosity. According to her information Young men by the hundreds and plenty of women too came seeking their Fortune in Gold. After about two weeks the whole thing just sort of petered out and no one Ever did find out How the Gold Nugget wound up in the Turkey. Apparently there was quite a bit about the Gold Rush in the papers of that Day and i would be interested in finding out whatever happened to the original Nugget that started the Manitoba Gold Rush. This would make Good material for a Short Story or even a play be anyone wanted to dig in to the whole business for the exciting period. Despite so so reviews Irma la Douce is doing a smash Box office business and has already financially topped the big hit pal Joey. That s Why it was held Over. Apparently it has been near the sell out stage every night which makes the Manitoba theatre Centre people plenty Happy says publicity director Mary Webb look for Reg Gibson to replace Stu Phillips on the red River Jam Boree starring role. Stu moves on to bigger things in the People and places because the weather was extremely cold during their stay Here the ice Capanes officials hit on a neat bit of Public relations work at the Arena. They had a standing offer of Battery Booster service to any show Patron who found he could t Start his car at the end of the evening. I have no idea of How Many took advantage of it but it was Good Public service gesture. Roy Kedron the noted Amateur golfer who probably has More cups and medals than anyone in the City is Back in the audio visual business with his original company. He and his whole family have also taken up skiing in a big Way but Roy found that his skis which he thought were in Good shape had t yet straightened out from the 1950 flood. If you can recognize the top 40 on the hit Parade you either have a Good ear or you re a teen Ager. But take heart in an article printed Way Back in 1748 in Universal mag Azine in London this was said the depraved music which prevails in these Days is injuring All the arts dependant upon it and has Hurt none so much As and Plutarch once complained about Wanton music dissolute and debauched nothing has really changed Over the years.
