Laing asked them to try to fill a request from Barbara Johnstone superintendent lower fort Garry National historic Park for authentic costumes of each Manitoba band for the Centenary. She said miss Johnstone had been donating each year since 1959 for a fund for materials in memory of her own great great grandmother who was Indian. She would also provide patterns and storage for the costumes to be used at ceremonial affairs. Mrs. Harold Robson read a letter from miss Johnstone asking that the Trust fund be opened for contributions per haps from business women s groups seeking a project. Clara Pratt of Churchill who has been doing Indian Craft work in a Winnipeg store said big commercial profits were made on handicrafts by White people. Four women finally agreed to try to undertake the costume work in their bands Saulteaux Sioux Cree and Chipewyan. Throughout the session it was evident that White assistance was regarded with some suspicion although women attending the conference were careful to stress that they honoured White people of integrity just As they did honorable indians in contrast to unscrupulous ones.
