James Dodson 23, of York Pennsylvania and Lance Cpl. Walter Weckes 20, of new York City. Sgt Dod son who had been working of a Road building project was captured on. May 6. Cpl. Eckes a radio operator with an artillery Forward observer team was seized on May 10. The two met for the first time on May 12 in a communist detention Camp somewhere South of Danang. It was about a month later they escaped. On june 20 they made Contact with a . Marine unit at an Hoa about 20 Miles Southeast of Danang. They were near exhaustion hunger and suf Fering from minor cuts and infections. During the four Day escape they survived on water from streams and Rice pad Dies and a few pieces of Caudy. On one occasion they barely by a matter of a few feet avoided being recaptured. From behind Dodson a supervisor on a Road project about seven Miles Southeast of a Naog said he had walked alone about 100 meters from the nearest marines to Check the area where the Road was to extend when he was captured. There were quite a few houses around sol. Dodson said in an interview. I stepped up to one and saw two women. Each of them had a baby. I walked around to the Back of the hit me on the Side of head. It stunned me and i sgt. Dodson said that someone grabbed him from behind snatching his Rifle from his grasp. As he hit the ground another Viet Cong with a Rifle stepped in front of him.
