But it was a scene in fort Garry enacted by 230 Junior High students at general Byng school Waterford Avenue and Beaumont Street. With the help of students teachers and eight counsellors who have witnessed poverty in the underdeveloped world. Gen eral Byng school was trans formed into the global the students assembled in their auditorium at . And saw films on insects hunger disease in other parts of the world and the Good life experienced by Manitoban. At lunchtime they paid Volun tary contributions for their lunch and then sat Down in the Central hallway to eat it. The proceeds from the lunch and from a school dance Friday night will be sent to an under developed country. The students awareness of the seriousness of their project was shown by their donations and by the amount of work which went into the creation of posters and the temporary transformation of several class rooms into foreign countries. The purpose of the program which was sparked by an idea submitted by the Manitoba association for world develop ment inc., is four fold to demonstrate the global inter dependence of human society to the students and teachers of general to describe the vicious Circle of hunger poverty illiteracy and disease As it affects two thirds of humanity to create an awareness of the dignity and the identity of individuals who happen to be i hungry or malnourished to stimulate Young people to develop their own personal j Neil Thiessen principal said the o n e a a y program was geared to portray the contrast in living standards Between the developed and the underdeveloped worlds.
