Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - March 18, 1968, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press monday March 18, 1968 Soprano., 17, youngest to win Rose bowl by Michael Kostelnik a 17-year-old Soprano has become the youngest Winner of the Rose bowl class at the Manitoba music Competition festival. Diane Berger a Grade 12 student at St. Mary s Academy won the Winnipeg chamber of Commerce trophy Rose emblematic of the Best Grade a vocalist at the festival. She is the daughter of or. And mrs. Albert Berger 540 Bannatyne Avenue. Four other major awards were presented at the festival s final session saturday night at the Winnipeg auditorium. The greater Winnipeg schools symphony orchestra won the Errick f. Willis trophy for the outstanding Solo piano perform Ance at the festival. Roy Roshko of West Kildonan won the Royal conservatory of music of Toronto alumni association trophy for the outstanding Solo piano perform Diane Berger Rose bowl Winner youth s Talent hailed by judge Victor Feldbrill. Trophy by Pearl Ami the younger generation came in for the accolades saturday the final Day of the Manitoba music Competition festival. Musical understanding intelligent performance and Beautiful voices were lauded by Trevor Anthony Dean of the festival adjudicating team As a most striking feature of the whole festival. These younger ones Promise a great future for music in Winnipeg he said. The concert Hall of the auditorium was Well filled for four trophy competitions which brought vocalists up to the intermediate level to their final triumphs. Or. Robert Morrison carried off the coveted award for boy sopranos the Harold l. Scarth memorial trophy. He gave a splendid performance of Derek Holman s song of soldiers. Or. Robert had come second in the boys sacred Solo class. Michael Grossman out Sang four Junior girl vocalists to take the w. K. Anderson memorial trophy.
