8 Winnipeg free press wednesday March 20, 1968 St. Vital to study Pedigree in an Effort to establish ties Between Louis Kiel and St. Vital City Council asked the provincial archivist to under take a historical study in the City. John a. Bovey the archivist had earlier consented to under take the study. He has been asked to look into the Pedigree and the associations of the Kiel property on River St. Vital decided last year to look into the possibility of establishing a Louis Riel museum. Aid. Florence Pierce pushed the museum idea saying she thought St. Vital was for some time the operating base for Riel Leader of the Northwest rebellion. She said Riel not forgetting his Many faults was probably the spiritual father of the province. Pierce urges tax measures Alderman Florence Pierce of St. Vital wants the Canadian federation of mayors and municipalities to ask the Federal government for three taxation measures which could save Money for individuals and municipalities. A three proposals were earlier adopted at the 1965 annual meeting of the federa Tion in Windsor ont. But the Federal government failed to implement them. She wants mortgage interest payments and municipal taxes to be exempt from personal income tax. She proposes that municipal expenditures for the installation of water services should be exempt from the 12 per cent Federal sales tax. Expenditures for Road and sewer services already Are exempted from the tax and water should be in the same category Aid. Pierce said. Council agreed with Aid. Pierce to Send the three propos als As resolutions to the 1968 meeting of the Canadian federation of mayors and municipalities in Edmonton june 3 6 for consideration.
