Now she lives in a wheelchair r plays basketball twice a week chucks the wheelchair for a weekly swim and wants to take up Rifle shooting. She has won a Gold medal for swimming a Silver medal for club throw and Bronze medals for javelin Dis Cus throw and a 60-metre dash. Wednesday evening Irene Mike re the 34-year-old Beauty with the porcelain like skin was named Manitoba sportswoman of the year. She also became the first to receive the new Errick f. Willis memorial trophy for the sports woman of the year at the third annual sportswomen s dinner organized by the Kinsmen club of St. Boniface Norwood St. Vital. The trophy donated by Labatt s brewery in memory of the late lieutenant governor of Manitoba was presented by Errick f. Willis jr., a political science student at the univer sity of Manitoba and like his father a curler. The five foot eight impound miss Miller had 520 cheering fans at the International inn including fellow non Knees for the title Dylis Turner Speed skater Doreen Mccannell golfer Dannys a Espevig arid curler Joan Ingram who represented the championship Betty Duguid rink. Another nominee was track and Field Star Jan Madden away at University in British Columbia. Miss Miller won her medals this August and september at paraplegic games in Winnipeg and Montreal. Basketball is her favorite sport and she claims scrimmage ing is better in a wheelchair. There Aren t enough paraplegic players in Winnipeg to make up game so her group invites non paraplegics to play from wheelchairs.
