Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - March 21, 1968, Winnipeg, Manitoba Coffee break i be always thought that Judy Lamarsh looks. Really swell in anything she wears and i blushed no end a couple of weeks ago when i read she had considered even in jest making a topless appearance at a Kenora Winter carnival. But yesterday when i read that she planned to attend the Liberal convention wearing a pair of red Vinyl thigh High boots and a White mini skirt accompanied by a White poodle on a Leash with a red and White striped coat i stuck my head in a drawer and wept. She made the announcement at a press conference while talking about the shortcomings if you can believe it of the Liberal government. Can t you just picture her striding up the aisle in fluid drive shouting or. Chairman or. Chair Man i would like to speak on behalf of and at this Point prime minister Pearson the former College football player will toot his whistle and say the Secretary of state is penalized 10 Yards for Backfield in it does seem Odd that Judy is throwing her support behind Paul Hellyer the inventor of the drab Olive Green uniform. But when she walks her dog onto the convention floor Hindsight might Force her to recruit a Little support of her own. At any rate i Hope she pauses just Long enough to shake one hand and say to the gentlemen my Outlook is much brighter since the last time Ouimet. Still with miss Lamarsh i note she re ported on monday that the Centennial commission which spent million in five years is returning million it did t use to the government. Now i know that in these trying times the government can use every refund it can get its hands on. But would t it be Only fitting if Ottawa would Send a portion of this Money to Winnipeg to help defray our pan am games deficit As Centennial projects go the pan am games were second Only to expo 67 in the matter of showing the rest of the world that Canada has arrived As a big league country. And unlike expo we hardly did it with a Blank Cheque from the Federal government. If this Money has already been earmarked for Centennial projects there is no More deserving place to Send it than right Here to Winnipeg. How about it last i heard we were about a million Short. If the Canadian. Cancer society is looking for Block canvassers during april. If you can spare a night or two to help this most worthy of causes please Contact mrs. Louis Orlikov 651 Elm Street Winnipeg 9. The Csc should change the name t f its monday night Talback radio show to you asked for it. Earlier this week i was coerced into strapping on the head phones to participate is a Little give and take on a subject called do you believe in flying saucers alias ufos alias Little Green i took the negative Side and i got it. I scarcely got the words i Don to believe out of Rny Mouth when the switchboard lit up like the dash Board on a dc-8. All i said was i won t believe in saucers until i either see one myself c Mon you Little Green Guys Buzz me i m not or until someone else throws a net Over one and brings it Back alive Well next thing i knew i was being branded an atheist a smart Alec and you name it. Not one per son not one called in to agree with me or to even express a shred of doubt that the Saucer invasion has been going on for thousands of years. The 15 candidates for the Liberal leadership Are Floun cing around the country saying a lot of things to a lot of people but i dare just one of them to come out against flying saucers. He won t have a Chance. Look i Don t say people who believe in flying saucers Are idiots. And if they do exist if we Are being watched by millions of Little Green men if they Are poised to take Over the world if we Are indeed doomed and if any of these Little Green Guys read the free press beat it will you i m still having trouble believing in the flying nun. By Michael Kostelny Tok four attractive girls from Winnipeg modelling the latest swimwear fashions from California added a Welcome summery note to the stage of the Winnipeg boat show wednesday eve Ning at the Winnipeg Arena. Tin girls wearing Cole of California Beach Wear appeared As part of an entertainment p r o g r which also included song stresses Jaye p. Morgan and Mary Nelson with the Jimmy King orchestra. The 20-minute fashion Dis play was the highlight both Tor men and women in the audience. The show s Low Point was an annoying exercise in Star temperament by miss mor Gan. The vocalist began her act with a few remarks about Winnipeg s weather which did t particularly endear her to the audience. From that mistake she went on to complain con stantly about the assorted hums Bangs and audience noises which seemingly Are an inevitable part of any concert at the Arena. Miss Morgan seemed to expect the sort of hushed silence a great artist receives at Carnegie Hall. The Arena is a Long Way from Carnegie Hall and a performance in the midst of a Trade display never Vides the Ideal performing conditions miss Morgan seemed to demand. Miss Morgan has been around show business Long enough to know the Basic hazards of performing at Trade shows. But instead of ignoring them and concentrating on entertaining her audience the Singer spent the time Between her numbers complaining about her surround Ings. Needless to say this had a disastrous effect on any sort of musical mood or effect she sought to achieve. Winnipeg vocalist Mary Nelson showed move wis Dom than miss Morgan. Miss Nelson came on stage to sing not to criticize. She Sang give me the simple life and hey Good Loo Kinin a Breezy infectious Man and she managed a reasonably soulful version of summertime. The singers were backed up by the competent and industrious Jimmy King or Chestra. The always tasteful band has an extremely Good brass Section which on the crescendos even threatened to heat up the vast Steppe like spaces of the Arena. But the real heating up was done by those of cur gorgeous women in bathing suits. Judging from what the girls were wearing it s going to be a Long Reward ing summer for girl watching at the Beach. The boat show runs until sunday ;
