Another View by John Robertson i be met a lot of politicians with guts in my Day but Bernie Wolfe the Liberal candidate for Selkirk was stand ing there on the lip of Bill Harris s swimming Pool and you could hear the applause a Good Quarter of a mile Down Henderson Highway. But the closer you got the More you found out that it was not really applause at All at least until after but people slapping very Large nip mosquitoes who were draw ing equal blood Lor equal pay. Bernie Wolfe May not be the Best Liberal candidate in this province but his people certainly throw the Best parties. Bernie is a lot like Steve Juba. You never know when his Campaign starts because he never stops campaigning. And furthermore he thrives on it. Bernie is sure of at least one vote that of wife Sheila who is just about the most enthusiastic thing on wheels. He is one of the few candidates who in t milking the Trudeau image but the honest politician that he is he does t mind suggesting that Pierre is not a bad Guy at All when it comes to picking leaders. I be dug a lot of scenes since the election Campaign started but nowhere does the hospitality equal that afforded by or. And mrs. Bill Harris. Besides singing a helluva rendition of Frankie and Johnny Bill pours a. Very pleasant punch and has a boat which measures an elegant 54 feet of Good taste. You May question my sense of fairness in mentioning at this late Date the name of Bernie Wolfe without echoing the names de Schreyer nip and Eric Stefanson but Bernie is probably the Only Rookie Federal politician who Ever had to Buck two incumbents a fact brought about by the deletion of de Schreyer s old Springfield Riding. And since i have already gone on record As voting for Roblin my wife is voting for Osier in South Centre let me also say that if i lived in Selkirk that Bernie Wolfe would be my Man. And Don t Tell me that i just lean toward the Guy who throws a Good Bash. Bernie has guts until hell won t have them and i know he has t stopped campaigning since the Day he kicked the slats out of the Cradle. I m not trying to Tell you How to vote. I m just saying How i would if i could in Selkirk. Hey How would you like to be a kid with no place to sleep in. I mean a kid maybe half a year old who thinks that the world is made of grown ups just trying to take care of him. If you were such a kid you might kick up a stink if you had to sleep in a drawer or a laundry Basket. I m not making Light of this. Kids have to do this just As kids have to live in Homes without furniture Homes without love and Homes without Brothers and Sisters. If you have a spare crib several Are needed would you please Call mrs. Joyce. Jaworski at the children s Aid we be never let anyone Down yet gang. And your Only pay is satisfaction that somebody is getting along better because of you. This is Beauly my Day to get worked up Over causes and my favorite one happens to be the Manitoba Nee chies sports club the Indian baseball team which plays under the guidance of Conrad Spence. These Guys Aren t looking for handouts but they can use All the help they can they Don t have much of anything but enthusiasm and they Aren t afraid to admit it. With an Eye towards raising funds to keep the club operable con Spence tells me that a wrestling match is being staged june 27 at the Kingsbury athletic club 1130 wai1. Street. The tickets Are each which May seem a Little Steep but the cause is a bargain Price. Maybe i m being too Blunt when i say that if you were an Indian boy of 18 to 21 and you had a Chance to play baseball or roam the streets what would you do i know what i would do. I would phone con Spence 783-6381 and ask what i could do to help. I would Send his team everything in the Way i could connected with baseball and i would sleep better. This is the third Appeal i have made on behalf of this Bunch. It is also the first Appeal i have made an behalf of an Indian group. It is also the first Appeal which has suffered from Lack of response.
