As Early As 1906 the first brass band was organized and since that time with few exceptions the town has always had an organized band. Citizens Are very proud of the present school band which is under the Able leadership of Robert lat Imer a native of England who has been associated with band All his life. He is presently president of the Saskatchewan school music super visors association presi Dent of the Saskatchewan chapter of the Canadian bandmaster association and is employed As school music supervisor in Melfort. Up until the time of engaging or. Lavinier As music supervisor the band was entirely sponsored by Melfort Kinsmen club. Once a part of the school system the band flourished and in the first year grew from 28 players to 70. Each year approximately 40 students Are enrolled maintaining the enrolment around the 170 Mark. In the live years of development the band has won at Many music festivals the most outstanding being placed third in the Cross Canada Centennial Competition and the highest Mark at the International band festival held in Moose jaw. In the local music festival the band organization entered three bands 25 ensembles 15 duets and 215 solos giving an indication of the enthusiasm present. The tour band is chosen from the full membership dependent on ability with the majority of players being under 16 years of age. They will return to Mel fort july 28 ;
