The varsity runner who Suff ered a hip injury last summer in the pan american games trials at Saskatoon saturday turned in an 11.6 seconds time to win the women s 100-metre event. It was her first meet following surgery Over the Winter and six weeks of intensive training in an Effort to qualify for the Canadian olympic team trials at Toronto next month. To further prove she is ready to assume the position As one of the top women runners in the province miss Turner won the juvenile Junior and open 440 Yard event in 59.5 seconds. The two firsts earned her the medal As the outstanding woman athlete in saturday s meet. Varsity s Bruce Pirnie won the medal As the outstand ing male athlete by bettering his native open men s shot put record and Regina sprint sensation Jan Herringer was awarded the medal As the Best age class athlete in the meet. Pirnie put the shot 51 feet eight inches one half an Inch better than his previous Mark. Miss Herringer a 15-year-old who has been attracting attention in Alberta and Saskatchewan meets this summer won two events. She won the juvenile girls Long jump with a leap of 18 feet six and one Quarter inches and the juvenile girls 220-Yard event in 25 seconds. She was Only one tenth of a second be Hind miss Turner in the women s 100-metre sprint. Pirnie s record was one of five established at the meet. Don Mclean of the Winnipeg Galaxy club covered the metre event in 33 minutes 30.4 seconds to set provincial open and Junior pre Vious open and Junior record of 34 minutes seventh tenths of a second by Larry Switzer of Winnipeg Razorbacks at the Tri province team trials june 22 of this year. Young Sandra Harper of Razorbacks bettered her provincial Bantam girls mile re Cord of five minutes 51.2 seconds with a time of five minutes 50 seconds while finish ing second in the women s open mile. Larry Fraser of the Winnipeg wings club set a Manitoba re Cord in the midget boys 220 Yard event. He was clocked at 23.1 seconds while finishing third in the juvenile 220. Cam Brock wins Selkirk tourney by Scotty Harper Selkirk when Cam Brock the Junior hockey Star with the monarchs and rangers decided his Days on the ice were Over he took up Golf.
