Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - July 30, 1968, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press tuesday july 30, 1968 r 19 no Cook jams retain fresh fruit flavors jams that Are made without boiling Are rapidly be coming favourites with homemakers who Are interested in providing their families with tasty extras during the Winter months. The jams Are made and stored in the deep Freezer. The fruit stays fresh and the flavor is excellent. Making jams by the no Cook method is fun. The Only requisite is that you have a deep Freezer otherwise you must use them within three weeks and during that time they should be stored in the coldest part of the refrigerator. Take the jams out of the Freezer and let them thaw in the Normal refrigerator. As soon As you Are finished with them return unused portions to refrigerator. July is the month of apricots and raspberries. Ascorbic acid is added to Apricot Jam so that it will retain its Lovely Golden color. Raspberries keep their Bright red color without the acid however it is needed for the peach Jam. As soon As the red Haven ascorbic acid and sugar. Let stand 20 minutes stirring occasionally. Stir pectin into water in Small heavy Saucepan. Stirring constantly bring to full rolling boil. Boil hard one minute. Remove from heat. Stir into apricots. Stir three minutes or until sugar dissolved. Pour into sterilized Jelly glasses. Cover and let Stanova room temperature 24 hours. Seal with it on so the paraffin and Freezer. Yield ounce glasses. Let stand 20 minutes stirring occasionally. Stir pectin into water. Stirring constantly bring to full rolling boil. Boil rapidly one minute. Remove from heat add to fruit. Stir three minutes or until sugar dissolved. Pour into sterilized glasses or Small Freezer containers. Cover let stand at room temperature 24 hours or until jelled. Seal with is Inch layer melted paraffin. Store in deep Freezer. Yield about eight six ounce con tamers. Freezer Apricot Jam 2 cups prepared apricots 1 Teaspoon powdered ascorbic acid 4 cups sugar 1 package powdered fruit pectin 1 cup water Wash apricots Cut in half. Remove pits. Mash or put into Large through Sieve. Measure. Add sugar. Let 2 cups prepared fresh peaches 1 Teaspoon powdered ascorbic acid 4 cups sugar bottle liquid fruit pectin dip peaches into boiling water for to seconds. Plunge into coid water feel and pit. Place pectin and water in Small heavy Saucepan. Stirring constantly bring to full rolling boil. Boil hard one minute. Stir into fruit mixture. Stir three minutes or until sugar dissolved. Ladle into sterilized Jelly glasses or Small Freezer containers. Cover let stand at room temperature 24 hours or until jelled. Seal with layer melted paraffin. Cover with foil or Freezer Ali film. Store in deep Freezer. Yield about seven six ounce glasses. No Cook Raspberry Jam 3 cups prepared fruit 6 cups sugar bottle liquid fruit pectin rinse berries Pat dry. Mash or put through Sieve. Measure stir in liquid pectin. Stir three minutes to dissolve sugar. Ladle into Small Freezer containers or sterilized Jelly glasses. Cover let stand at room temperature 24 hours or until jelled. Seal with melted paraffin. Cover with Freezer Ali film or heavy duty foil. Store in deep Freezer. Yield seven to eight six ounce containers. Grapefruit wine Jelly cup freshly squeezed fresh Grapefruit juice 1 cup Claret wine 3v Caps sugar bottle liquid fruit pectin Combine Grapefruit juice wine and sugar in heavy l Saucepan. Stirring constantly Cook Over Low heat until sugar dissolved about eight to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in pectin. Pour into sterilized Jelly glasses. Seal with paraffin. Store in cold place. Yield six to eight six ounce glasses. Plum Jam 2 cups prepared plums 4 cups sugar a bottle liquid fruit pectin Wash plums about two pounds Pat dry. Cut in half pit and put through Fine Blade of food chopper. Measure two cups. Place in Large mixing bowl add sugar. Let stand 20 minutes in the Large bowl. Stir three minutes or until sugar Dis solved. Ladle into sterilized Jelly glasses or Freezer containers. Cover and let stand 24 hours. Seal with vie Inch melted paraffin.
