Cecil Earl 86-year-old resident of Lions Manor taps out a tune on the piano. The planned 14-Storey Extension outlined on the Cleft to Lions Manor will House 223 elderly persons prove ing the Lions club of Winnipeg succeeds in raising in Public subscriptions. At present there is a 700 persons waiting list. The new Structure will double the capacity of the present Structure. The building designed by. Waisman Ross Blankstein Coop Gillmor Hanna will be of red Brick and masonry. It will be connected to the older building at the first four floors. Eager for Manor Extension Many elderly Winni Eggers Are keeping their fingers crossed that the Lions club of Winnipeg will succeed in raising towards the Cost of constructing a 14-Storey Exten Sion to the Lions Manor Sherbrook Street and Portage Avenue. The is 10 per cent of the total Cost of the project. During a tour of the present Structure Jake Suderman the Manor s executive director said 700 elderly Winni Eggers have sought accommodation in the building which can House Only 212 people. Even if the Extension is built it could accommodate Only 223 elderly people but the Lions see it As a step in the right direction. They indicated that if the present fund raising drive is successful they won t Stop there. The next move would be to build another Extension at the rear of the building where the parking lot is now. The present fund raising drive will move into High gear in september when the Lions will hold a 50-Block Golden similar to Wal Athons which raise Money for charitable causes. Sponsors pay participants so much a mile for the distance walked. The Golden to be held sept. 27, will be open Only to people 50 years old or older. It is expected to raise at least people will Likely participate. The current Gold Brick Cam whereby people paying is for a ticket the estimated Price of a Brick become eligible for a award every month has raised net an additional covered expenses towards the Gold Brick goal. Even the residents of Lions Manor have become directly involved in the fund raising Campaign. At one Tea they raised concerning the Golden the Lions say they will take care to provide Complete services along the route and transportation Home. As one official put it we re not concerned with senior citizens finishing but in another part of the Campaign is a Public Appeal to raise and companies Are being canvassed by some of the 140 members of the Lions club of Winnipeg. Contributions to the building fund May make their cheques out to Lions club of Winnipeg senior citizens Home. V.
