Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - June 25, 1969, Winnipeg, Manitoba Manitoba growing to beat 70 Winnipeg free press final edition vol. 76 no. 230 Price Loc foil bomb plot device found on Prince s route Holyhead Wales up police today Dis covered a powerful bomb on the pier where Prince Charles will set foot next week on his Way to investiture As Prince of Wales. An army team defused it. The bomb was made from 10 High explosive gel ignite Sticks. Police cleared people off the pier at this Welsh port after the device with timing mechanism was discovered in an airline bag near a Monument commemorating the occasion in 1958 when Charles first set foot on Welsh soil. The Prince is scheduled to arrive at Holyhead tuesday in the Royal yacht Britannia and drive 30 Miles to Caernarvon the ancient capital of Wales for the elaborate investiture ceremony the following Day. Police gave no immediate de tails on when the bomb was timed to explode or of its Poten tial Power. Previous bomb outrages blamed on extremists who oppose the investiture have been highly professional jobs. Fears of demonstrations or even an assassination attempt Are among reasons keeping peo ple away from the ceremonies officials believe.
