Staff a treaty Indian member of the Nelson House advisory committee to the provincial department of Northern affairs Moses Moore in a statement this week expressed concern for the welfare of the eight Metis families. Spe Cial at a meeting monday the fort Frances Rainy River Board of education ratified a salary contract with its second Ary school teachers. Negotiations were completed at Ings Friday night and saturday morning. The offer made by the Board prior to the breakdown of negotiations was a 6-4 per cent in crease in salary costs Over 1970. The final settlement agreed upon by both sides re presented an increase of 6.57 per cent in salary costs Over 1970. The Board is Happy that this matter is finally settled and that Good relations can be re established with its staff. The Board said it regrets that Dur ing the period of Contention the Toronto team which negotiated for the teachers saw fit to publicize several half truths calculated to weaken the people s Confidence in the Board. The Board Felt that during this Jeriod it was Wiser not to reply to such statements in order to maintain a More Calm Atmo sphere for negotiations. However if there Are any questions that the Public would Ike to ask about statements made during the negotiation period the Board will gladly answer them. All of the 84 teachers who had resigned after the breakdown in salary negotiations will be re hired.
