Alice Cooke of the Winnipeg five pin Bowling Assoc. Has to be one of the busiest Bowling secretaries in the City. When i last spoke to her she was Busy with preparing mail for the Junior and High school tournaments. It was not so Long ago that she had prepared the bowl for orphans mail along with entry forms for the Western Canada qualifying Canadian closed singles and the was son memorial draw for the five pin houses. When you consider the Large membership involved you can Well imagine the volume of work mrs. Cooke puts out. She sure could use some help. I was sorry to read about the recent death of Harvey s Toller s Mother. I met Harvey at one of the 10-pin ban Quets last Spring and Send along my sincere condolences. By Kent Gilchrist Frank Evans the sometimes coach of the University of Winnipeg Westmen and sometimes guard of St. Andrew s super saints was a Busy Man wednesday night during the u of w s fifth annual Golden boy invitational basketball tournament. In the first game he coached the Westmen into the final with a narrow 79-74 win Over Hamil ton s Mcmaster u marauders. Then he played with the super saints a local senior club and put up a shot in the final Sec Ond of the game which Jerry Barney tipped in for a 60-58 win Over tourney favourites Acadia axeman. For the first time in the history of the tournament it will be an All Winnipeg final when Wes men with their coach on the Bench meet the super saints for the championship at 9 o clock tonight at Riddell Hall. In the University Section of the tournament Brandon u bobcats and Ottawa gee gees first round losers met in the Consolation final at this morning. This afternoon at 3, Acadia meets Mcmaster in the third place playoff. In what was the game of the tournament St. Andrews led by Barney and Ted Stoesz the exp of Manitoba Bison Star trailed Only twice in the con test. But the axeman were always close and were As Good in losing As saints were in win Ning. Axeman who went through last season with a 30-2 record including the Canadian inter e o 11 e g i a t e and Golden boy titles Are now 7-2 for this sea son. Barney was the obvious hero of the game. He led saints with 18 Points and owned the boards with 13 rebounds. Stoesz who got a Little revenge on Acadia for last year had 15 Points.
