At least the weeds Are Green and they prevent erosion. If there Are Only a few weeds the Broadleaf weeds can be killed by spot treatments that is by treating Only the areas where the weeds Are. There Are herbicides that can kill Broadleaf weeds without harm to the grass. But be sure to follow directions on the Label for mix and application. Grassy weeds such As wire grass Goose grass quack grass perennial Bunch grass and nimble will Are a different proposition. There is no chemical that can be used to kill them that won t also kill the Desira ble grass. However Salapon or amino thiazole can be used to spot treat. Apply Only to the Grassy weeds because it will kill the grass also. There Are pre emergence herbicides that can be used to kill Broadleaf and Grassy weeds including crabgrass As the seeds sprout. For dandelion Chicory cinquefoil wild garlic pigweed plantain Shepherd purse and wild Carrot specialists recommend that 2, 4-d be used. My problem is that the roots of my Trees in Many places Are out of the ground in some places Only protruding but in others there is hardly any soil around them. 1 Don t know if the ground is settling or the roots rising up. What can be done to get the situation corrected 1 have thought of putting topsoil on top of the Glass where the roots show a Little at a time so As not to kill the grass. This May take forever in some places. Or is my Best bet just to cover the roots completely with two or three or maybe four inches of soil and then Plant grass again a the surfacing of tree roots in lawns is a rather common problem. It makes grass grow ing difficult and the grass that does grow is hard to mow. Usually the roots occupy the soil near the surface because that is where the richest soil and the most moisture Are. Sprinkling the Lawn with the Hose 15 to 30 minutes every Day or every few Days has a tendency to bring tree roots to the surface. The Small roots come to the surface and after they increase in diameter they Are above the surface. It is a characteristic of Maple Trees to have shallow Root system. Covering the protruding roots with soil May be risky. It May reduce the availability of oxygen in the soil. Even an Inch or two of heavy Clay soil May cause injury or even death. According to or.
