The paper states that the Ca Nadian banking Industry is a tightly controlled oligopoly in which five charter Banks own More than 91 per cent of total Bank assets. Price Competition in the form of service charges and interest rates on deposits and Loans is non existent says the paper. The banking Industry has not served the Industrial needs of Western Canada effective the paper states. For one thing the banking Industry has provided an inadequate amount of assistance to Small Busin esses.
