There Are after All More than fish swimming around at the Institute in a five Storey Laboratory filled building on the Southern fringe of the University of Manitoba Campus. In addition there Are Frozen fish dried fish smoked fish and canned fish which Aren t swimming around and a lot of Lively crayfish and other Small crustaceans and algae and Plankton and Well if it abounds in fresh water there s probably some of it there and that includes pollutants. The Institute is part of the Federal department of the environment and is the nerve Centre for government re search into All aspects of fresh water resources for Ontario Manitoba Saskatchewan Al Berta and the Northwest Terri tories. Scientists at the Institute Are concerned with such things As farming Rainbow Trout in Small lakes the Impact of Mackenzie Hiver developments on fish in the Region the effects of Mer Cury poisoning on fish development of tasty new ways to process and Market fish main Taining a sport fishing Industry on great Bear Lake and the effects of Churchill River diversion on the commercial fisheries on Southern Indian Lake. In the Institute too ;
