The Deer came quietly cautiously out of the Dusky evening Light up the Well worn paths through the scrub Brush to the Crest of the Hill. There were two Deer at first looking Fawn sized against the backdrop of Trees and Snow covered slope on the of Long River Valley. Then there were three four five eight All converging up the network of paths to begin a follow the Leader Parade along the main Trail leading to the Low wire Fence running parallel to the Railroad tracks. The Leader moved two lengths ahead of the following Herd Tail swinging from Side to Side occasionally indicating its uneasiness. It the distance was a bit too far to de Termine if it was Buck or Doe stood quietly at the Fence watching listening with ears twitching nervously at every found that carted from the town at the rim of the Valley. They re sure spooky de Guntrum whispered As four huddled forms watched the animals through an open window partway up the Manitoba fool elevator at Clearwater about 130 Miles Southwest of Winnipeg just off Highway 3. The Deer that were coming out of the Valley monday evening were just a handful of the Manitoba Deer who have found the Winter of 1973-74 one of the severest in the past decade.
