Chinook winds brought Sunn mild weather that started the Snow melting in Manitoba this week. Snow depth measure mints dropped Between Mon Day and Friday when warm breezes lowered Winnipeg s Snow cover from 1g inches to an average of 13 inches. A True Chinook is a wind that blows Down the Eastern slopes of the Rocky mountains. It becomes warmer and drier As it flows to lower elevations and it can bring Sharp temperature rises in Southern Alberta. If the wind continues to blow from the West ii cools Over Snow covered Fields of Saskatchewan and Manitoba but it is still a Clown slope wind. Elevations drop feet from Cal Gary to Regina the ground slopes Down another feet from Regina to Winnipeg. This week began with a Low pressure disturbance Over the Dakotas that spread Cloud and Snow flurries into Southern Manitoba. Winnipeg snowfall measured 1.8 inches and brought this Winter s total up to 44 inches one Inch less than up to this Date last year. Temperatures monday Rose from 4 below to 21 above. Skies cleared tuesday and the Sun shone for nine hours with temperatures rising from s below to 17 above. All temperature readings were above Zero for the remainder of the week. Wednesday readings Rose from 3 to 32 degrees the first thawing temperature since dec. 28, when it was 35 above. Thursday was sunny for More than nine hours and temperature ranged from 9 to 25 degrees. It averaged 14 de Grees warmer than usual for feb. 20, but Milder air was again approaching from the West. Temperatures overnight failed to drop below a mini mum of 19 degrees and it warmed to 28 degrees by 1 . The next few mild weal Hei Outlook for Days indicates will continue. The Westerly Low is expected to bring Cloudy periods and a few Snow hurries but temperatures will average from 8 to 12 degrees above Normal for late february. Normally in the last week of february temperatures verage from overnight lows of below to afternoon highs of 16 above.
