And it is entertaining just what writers of letters to the editor have been asking for for years. The director handles actors deity although in Nashville he has chosen to make them paper thin Stock characters. Miss Tomlin s performance and Henry Gibson s portray Al of an aging country Star Are especially Fine. The finest performances however come from Ronee Blakley As Barbara Jean and Barbara Harris As the hillbilly wife who wants to be a Star. Nearly All the characters Are unsympathetic greedy grasping vicious or else pathetic. Great stuff. Tying the film together is a political Campaign for a third party presidential candidate. The Campaign the film s Climax is a political rally involves or touches All the characters and leads to the death of one of them.
