July 19. 1975 attack nets jail term a Man arrested by Winnipeg police while he was commit i Ting buggery a sexual act against an intoxicated 56-year- old Man from whom he had stolen a Wallet and watch was sentenced Friday to eight months in jail. William John Thomas 33, of no fixed address pleaded guilty july 11 to charges of buggery and theft when he appeared in provincial judges court in the Public safety building. Sentence was postponed when judge i. V. Ubienski or dered a pre sentence report into Thomas s personal Back ground As a result of the of Fence which occurred at about 10 . July 8 at the Back of a building at 698 main Street. It was at that time that two women walking in a Lane noticed a Man kneeling Over an other Man and going through the victim s pockets. One of the women called police who arrived shortly afterwards Crown counsel Robert Maxwell told court. The victim who police said had been drinking in Severa main Street hotels that night was found lying on his Stom Ach with clothing removed except for a shirt and socks. Thomas crouched above him had to be pulled away by police or. Maxwell said. Thomas admitted to Job c he had committed buggery. Police also found he had a watch and a Wallet containing in change which belonged to the victim. The victim was taken to Hospital and released shortly afterwards and said later he did t remember the incident. Or. Defence counsel Wilfred Juravsky said there was no explanation for Thomas s acts except that his client had been intoxicated at the time.
