Or. Romanow noted that the Federal government changed its tax Laws to provide that any com Pany can do longer deduct provincial taxes in calculating Federal corporate in come tax and the result is double because of the Federal move the act allows that in determining a Potash mine s value after tax earnings can be calculated As if provincial taxes were deductible before the change in Federal this in effect would in crease a Potash mine s value he said. Or. Steuart provided figures during the throne speech debate to support his statement that the government move to take Over All or part of the Industry is a bad business Deal. He cited tax Cost and Revenue figures for an average Potash mine he said showed that if the government owned the Potash Industry and added the Cost of repaying the loan needed to pay for the mines it would have a Cash flow deficit during the life of the loan. Or. Steuart said his figures probably will be challenged by the government because they Are averages and make certain assumptions particularly about business costs and the value of the mines. But even if they Are slightly off they cannot be juggled to. Give the Ince As much Revenue As it now is Tak ing in he told a news Confer ence. This is a bad Deal.1 or.
