Civic executive policy com Mittee which he chairs received the proposal thursday and instructed him to report on its feasibility. In an interview the mayor said the total Cost would be ?8 million to million with each Arena costing Between half and three quarters of a million dollars. In a written communication to policy commit tee the mayor said there is sufficient demand to warrant construction of the Arenas and said a unique six year plan could be developed for the project. Two rinks a year would be erected in each of the years and would be turned Over to the Community at no Cost to be operated by volunteers. Cost sharing with the provincial or Federal govern ment would be sought with the City bearing half the Cost. Once built the City would not finance operational costs other than granting realty tax exemption. Contract tenders for All 12 Arenas would be called at one Lime. The mayor wrote that the Arenas would be primarily used for recreational skating and hockey in the Winter. In summer they could be used for socials festivals dances and exhibitions he wrote.
