Winnipeg free press wednesday june 9, 1976 Manitoba sets up Board for livestock Industry agriculture minister Samuel Yuskiw of Manitoba has set up a 16-member advisory committee representing Sec tors of the livestock Industry to seek producers views on recommendations of a com Mission of inquiry into beef marketing in the province. Earlier this year a report of the provincially appointed commission of inquiry was highly critical of the prov Ince s beef marketing Industry. In almost three dozen recommendations it suggested sweeping changes including establishment of a beef marketing Agency to put order into marketing and financed by a Levy on cattle and calves sold in the prov Ince. The advisory committee headed by j. F. Muirhead of the provincial agriculture department will be asked to study the advisability of set Ting up a beef marketing Agency and other recommendations of the inquiry com Mission or. Yuskiw said in a statement. It is to report its findings by Jan. 31, 1977. The committee is made up of livestock producers de p a r t m e u i officials and members of the Manitoba livestock and meat commis Sion. Or. Yuskiw said that in order to obtain a Broad consensus he selected several committee members from lists of nominees submitted by both the Manitoba farm Bureau and the Manitoba division of the National farm ers Union. The decision to create the committee followed discus Sions with the farm Bureau including the executive of the Manitoba beef growers association and the Manitoba cow calf producers association. The committee will hold meetings in Rural Manitoba to give livestock producers in All parts of the province the Opportunity to express their views. Or.
