Winnipeg free puss saturday March 12, 1977 French students will be accepted Desjardins St. Boniface school Board will accept French students from precious blood school in Norwood school division if the Norwood Board request it St. Boniface la Larry Desjardins said Friday. Desjardins new demo cratic party said the St. Boniface school Board told him at an informal meeting thursday night the students would be acceptable in Prin the dispute at precious blood is Between parents favouring a heavy French pro Gram a program and those favo Ringa 50-50 French English program b pro but Desjardins said if a group were to be transported it would be the b group. There is no room for a Stu dents at tache school but Provencher school Kinder Garten to Grade 8 and Louis Kiel collegiate could accommodate the b students. Desjardins said he has been approached informally by people in the division but that no formal request was made by Norwood school Board that busing students be considered. He said Merit in the arguments of both the a and b groups but thinks parents in the controversy arc Only interested in Victory for their Side. Carol Mpinney a b group spokesman said she could t comment on what would Hap pen if the Norwood division accepts the St. Boniface offer. The Norwood Board is to announce March 22 its decision about which program will apply at precious blood the school division not the provincial government has to make that decision but the decision on whether children will be transported will be made by parents she said. Mrs. Monney and some m e b e r s of the b group watched the debate in Edu cation estimates in the Mani Toba legislature this week. Trustee Frank Kennedy chairman of the negotiating committee said in a statement teachers re Quested 23 per cent pay in crease an increase which would have meant an in crease of More than for division taxpayers. Len Rivard teachers association president said in an interview Friday the teach ers initially sought 22 per cent but reduced this to 12 per cent. Kennedy said later Friday the request was 12.3 per cent in salaries and about 17 per cent in other areas of the proposed contract. Rivard said the Board in creased its offer to nine from eight per cent and that teachers representatives were asked to consider this. The Board refused to discuss non monetary contract items until the salary dispute was settled. Kennedy said the Board was willing to take its nine per cent offer to the Federal anti inflation Board for a Rul ing and would have continued negotiations on other matters had the teachers not said further negotiations were fruitless and declared there teachers intention to seek conciliation.
