As the Brier show closed two More National championships moved into the Starling Gate. At Transcona country club the finest Junior men s teams in Canada have assembled for this year s Canadian championship. After watching last year s event in Kapuskasing i suggest that curlers should make their Way out to Transcona Early each Day and be prepared to watch some of the finest Curling in this country. These Youthful competitors play an open daring game and the results though sometimes Are always entertaining. Paul Rowsell skip of the Alberta team was the world Junior Champion in 1976. So Manitoba s Bob Sigurdson will need All the fan support he can Muster. While the Junior men Only travelled from East Kildonan to the fort Garry hotel and the Transcona club our Mani Toba Junior girls team left yesterday morning for Saint John n.b., the site of this year s girls Canadian championship. Is. Vital s Patti Vande Cindy Jensen Colleen Clarke and Connie Laliberte will represent us on the ice decked in their winning provincial outfits of Black Slacks and Turtle necked to shirts and White sweaters emblazoned with their names and Mani Toba crests. Off the ice the girls have chosen deep Blue Matching jackets vests and pants with a Choice of White or Cranberry red blouses. While speaking with Mica coach and chaperone Glenda Buhr prior to their departure she rated their chances As Exon the Broom with Ina Light Cellenti due to Patti s experience. She also stated Patti s Cool out there and knows what she s doing. I m looking for Ward to being in Saint John with the last year the Vande team finished in fourth spot with a 6-3 record. However they were Only one win away from a tie for first place As b.c., Saskatchewan and , finished with identical 7-2 records. In the playoff Saskatchewan s col Leen Rudd emerged victorious and moved our sister province into the Lead for the most Junior titles. Saskatchewan has three titles Alberta has one and Manitoba s Chris Pidzarko is the Only skip to have won the title twice Patti was on the 1974 team and is no doubt aiming for Manitoba s third Crown. Last weekend the popular Morden All Starlette Bonspiel featured 32 of the top female Curling teams. When the rocks had settled the winners of the ctr annual Bonspiel were Rose Tanasichuk Marg Homeniuk Anne Vivian and Sharon Pear Point of the civic Cal. Curling club. The Road to the top Cash prize was paved with qualifying wins Over Bonnie Brekke Joan Ingram and Toby Crafter. In the eight team playoff Rose sidelined Chris Pidzarko and Marg Jenner to Advance to the final against Elaine Anderson and her Grain Exchange business girls team of Cathy Bruce Brenda Essery and Lor Raine Mcdonald. In the final match Rose posted a 6-5 win in a game that was decided on the last Rock. Others to share in the Cali prizes were Donna brow Ridge Isabel Leblanc Chris Pidzarko and Oddney Sager. Johns indicated the u of m had volunteered to stage the Canadian selection meet for the student games but that at present approval from Canadian gymnastics authorities has not been received. Other athletes who per formed Well for Gapac were Lisa Johanson and Larry Smith. Johanson placed fourth in the floor exercises but dropped to ninth Over All after being injured in the beam event.
