Winnipeg free press tuesday March Union trying for Bank by Scott Edmonds the retail employees Union local 832, has applied to the Canada labor relations Board to be the certified bargaining agent at another Winnipeg Branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The application has been filed with the Federal labor Board for the Branch at 2181 Portage Avenue a Board spokesman confirmed Mon Day. It s the second Branch of the Bank in Manitoba to apply for Union certification in a two week period. The a local representative of the retail clerks International Union has already asked to represent seven employees of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Selkirk and Mcgregor Branch. The first attempt by the Union headed locally by Ber Nard Christophe to organize Bank workers in Manitoba failed. Employees of a Sel Kirk Man., Branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia indicated at a Federal labor Board hearing in Winnipeg they no longer sought Union representation a few months after applying. At the hearing Christophe failed to prove to the Board the employees had been intimidated by Bank manage ment into reversing their decision. Nationally the Ciu has doubled to 10 its staff of full time organizers trying tip certify Bank employees and has already applied for certification at 13 other Banks.
