The four Western premiers have branded the Federal Wurn mint o move to reduce provincial Sale taxes unilateral and in a joint communique issued at the annual Western premiers conference which began Here thursday the premiers said they Don t dispute the principle of the sales tax Cut As a fiscal but they said it intrudes into areas of provincial jurisdiction is badly limed treats some provinces differently from others and reverses a Federal provincial policy of flexibility in Cost sharing agreements. We Don t want to devalue the principle of Manitoba Premier Sterling Lyon said in an interview after the Day s discussion ended. Despite the evidence Canadian officials say standards Here Are among the Best in the world. Information in the reports relat ing to Manitoba plants includes claims that some poultry processing plants have operated without Ade quate hot water to clean equip ment. Some contaminated meat has slipped past inspectors. Some meat packing plants do not have adequate control to ensure that condemned meat does t reach the Public. Peeling paint rust and condensation can fall into meat. In other parts of Canada exports to the . Were banned until extensive cleanups and renovations were completed. But he said the govern ment intends to Amend the act and pass retroactive legislation at the next session to ensure the legality of the practice. Anyone contemplating challenging their assess ments in the courts would have to do so pretty quickly to beat the retroactive legislation Maltby said.
