Part of the agreement included consultant fees of a year to be paid to each brother for three successive years. In May 1976, Revenue Canada investigators confronted Purves with the charge that he had t declared the fees As income on his personal return. The matter surfaced after the tax Branch conducted an audit of James Richardson and sons which owns Pioneer and discovered records of pay ments for the consultants fees. Purves 50, told the court he had compiled his tax re turns himself by collecting All his t-4 and t-5 slips and forwarding them to his accountant. He said he did t include the consultant income because there was t a document for it in his file drawer when he was making up the list. It was purely a mechanical process of a very Busy Man to get the Job done the Job got done Purves said.
