The site May contain the foundations of As Many As three separate forts established in the Early 1800 s when fur Trade rivalry was the strongest she said. Competition for the fur Trade Between the Northwest company and the Hudson s Bay company began in the area when in 1819 the Hud son s Bay company established a fort near one built by the Northwest company in 1806. A Survey party passing through the area in 1889 noted that although the fort was abandoned the buildings were still standing. It is hoped the archaeologists will find the remains of Peter Fidler who served As the last master of the Hudson Bay fort from 1819 to 1821.
