July 12.107f Rural hotels escaping financial difficulties by Andy Blicq Rural Manitoba hotel operators say that while they Are losing profits from Beer Ven Dor sales they Are not in the financial Straits claimed by the Manitoba hotel association. In at least two cases operators of beverage rooms say sales have even improved since brewery workers walked off their jobs three weeks ago. With hard liquor and Beer imported from the United states available to them the hotel men say sales Aren t bad and few staff layoffs have been necessary. Earlier George Prost president of the hotel association said about hotel work ers have been Laid off since the strike began and some Rural hotels Are on the Brink of bankruptcy. The association represents about 300 Manitoba hotels. However a Survey of Rural hotels through out the province tuesday by the free press found Little support for the claim. Norm Tessier manager of the Arborg hotel in Arborg man., 75 Miles North of Winnipeg joined with the St. Pierre hotel about 20 Miles South of Winnipeg and imported a Semi trailer Load of Beer from the United states a week ago. The usual 80-cent bottle of Beer in Arborg and St. Pierre has risen to in the beverage room. There Are no Vendor sales. Our beverage room sales have gone up slightly because of the Novelty of drinking Beer now during the Tessier said. He added that his hotel bought a four month Supply of hard liquor prior to the strike so it is sufficiently stocked. You can get american Beer.
