Charles Koppang told the jury. Koppang testified that mrs. Harper made the statement when he questioned her right after a polygraph test administered on March 1, 1976. A few minutes later she was interviewed by two other ramp officers. A written account of that interview was read to the jury monday by former ramp Constable Ray Thi Beau one of the interviewers. In it mrs. Harper said she gave her husband the sleeping pills because he wanted to go to there was no indication in the account of How she had Given him the pills. In statements to police in 1959 and in february 1976, mrs. Harper said she did t know where her husband got the pills. That was a lie in August of 1959. It was a lie in Dangerfield told the jury. In the March 1 statement to ramp officers read to the jury monday mrs. Harper said Sandy Harper forced her to help him throw Down s body out the window and then raped her. Dangerfield said if this were True Why did t mrs. Harper Tell any of the numerous policemen friends and neighbors who gathered in the Middle of the night after Down s body was found he also said mrs. Harper could have moved Down s body from the bed and thrown it from the window because in her work As a licenced practical nurse she had moved people around before. As Well Down was Only five feet eight inches tall and weighed Only about 140 pounds he said. Dangerfield told jurors they had a right to wonder Why Sandy Harper did t appear in court but should t consider this in reaching a verdict. The Only evidence that Sandy had anything to do with this Case comes from the accused an acknowledged he said. Defence counsel Lawrence Greenberg said the evidence showed there was no doubt mrs. Harper lied to police in 1959. But he said a reasonable doubt is raised by inconsistent medical evidence As to whether Down died from Barbiturate poisoning and the fall As the 1959 inquest from asphyxiation or from something else. None of the medical experts who testified was sure he said. Greenberg told the jury mrs. Harper went to the police in february 1976, at her own initiative and that she agreed readily to take a lie Detector test. Her action contrasted with Sandy Harper who ramp officials Testi fied was hostile he said. Greenberg said there was no doubt in his mind mrs. Harper helped throw Down s body out the win Dow. But no evidence established she gave Down the sleeping pills in his Coffee As part of a predetermined plan to kill him the defence counsel said.
