Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - September 27, 1978, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press wednesday september 27, 1978 Silverman says landlords disappointed with conservatives Sidney Silverman presi Dent of the Manitoba land lords association said tuesday the progressive conservative government of Premier Sterling Lyon has badly let Down land lords. Many landlords Are still feeling the Pinch of rent says Silverman told approximately 150 land lords who gathered in the embassy room of the International inn. Silverman also lashed out at the provincial Roll Alsman s office. The moment you open the door at the rentals Man s office you Are wrong if you Are a he said. He was also critical of a Winnipeg bylaw that per mits the City to add Delin quent water Bills on to the tax Bill of the property owner. He said the City makes Little Effort to collect overdue water Bills from tenants and landlords suf Fer by paying for water consumed by somebody other landlords complained of harassment by the human rights commis Sion. One Man said he had been taken to task for re fusing la rent a suite in a building advertised As suitable for mature ten a 22-year-old woman. Another Man complained he had to face a representative of the human rights commission after telling a 17-year-old unwed Mother that he would not consider her for a Job As caretaker of an apartment building. Silverman said his association had received 800 complaints from landlords about treatment by the rentals Man.
