John Maybank of the Saskatchewan research Council in Saskatoon has been getting anxious about a Docu ment from Malaysia he has been expecting since last summer somebody Tell him not to give up Hope. His parcel along with four other pieces of mail has turned up in a supposedly empty mail bag in Winni Peg an 18-year-old employee of a City firm went to the main Post office at 3 . Wednesday to pick up 10 empty bags for his employer. Neil Dyck said he took the bags from a Large pile of what Are supposed to be empty bags and threw them in his truck. When he was unloading them he said he could feel that one of the Large Canvas bags was far from empty. Inside he found two Small parcels from Saskatoon sask., one addressed to Enderby b.c., the other to Calgary Alia. They were postmarked August 1978. The rolled document from malay Sia with an on government service stamp. It was postmarked july 4, 1978. A Large thick envelope from an Ottawa children s organization addressed to a professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon Post marked aug. 25, 1978. A second Large thick envelope from a company in Mississauga om., addressed to a doctor in Saskatoon and postmarked aug. 22, 1978. All of the packages had Stamps. The one Man committee headed by Winnipeg lawyer Graeme Haig will hold meetings in three other Rural Manitoba centres and in Winnipeg before preparing a final report by dec. 31. The committee was appointed to investigate All aspects of lotteries in the prov Ince. Haig heard briefs from two local libraries in Morden and Carman and from a regional museum. Representatives asked the committee to consider shifting greater portions of lottery Revenue to their organizations. A spokesman representing 12 Carman churches also read a Brief which expressed concern Over the recent proliferation of lotteries and organized gambling in general. Haig said after the hearing that the committee wanted to get maximum input from All sectors about lotteries and How they can be improved. The committee s terms of reference include a study of the Manitoba lotteries commission the lot teries licensing Board and administration and distribution of lottery revenues. The provincial government looks after Norquay building 410 York Avenue. All lotteries with tickets costing less than while the Federal government regulates the rest. There is a general unawareness on the part of the Public As to where lot Tery revenues go Haig said. Large num Bers of Worthwine Community projects Are being funded exclusively by lotteries. Haig said any game of Chance or Gam bling Enterprise is subject to abuse and the committee will be looking into How to prevent this from occurring.
