People stopped giving her anything difficult to do at work. Students have shown a Simi Lar reaction to pregnant Peers who get top Marks in class. It s As if they assume the women s abilities Are affected by their pregnancies lips says. Some of the women resented changes in people s attitudes to Ward them the Way people assumed they Only wanted to talk about their pregnancy As if every thing else had left their minds. Lips suggests we do have a mythology about part of it stems from earlier times when the condition was considered a mys Tery. Another part reinforces the dichotomy Between men and women. Pregnancy is a hyper feminine role while men Are expected to exert their masculinity. It s one area where femininity and masculinity Are appropriate and assured.
