The Homes were notified of the City s decision to Start collecting the school tax Money in letters from the civic assessment office last month. A recent local improvement near the Eastern Star chalet senior Citi zen s Home in Charleswood alerted City officials to the fact that the residences were liable under Provin Cial Law for school levies. When City officials investigated claims by the Home that it could t be taxed for local improvements and school taxes they discovered such residences have been escaping the levies for years. Prior to 1966, residences operated on a non profit basis were totally exempt under the municipal assessment act.
