Plan for study lauded by John Mcmanus the president of the Mani Toba aviation Council says a feasibility study into establishing a National aerospace training Centre in Winnipeg May Lead to a much needed boost for the province s stalled aviation Industry. Federal employment min ister Lloyd Axworthy announced saturday the establishment of a committee of aerospace executives and Union officials to determine whether growth predictions confirm a need for More trained workers. The Council is pleased the Federal government has set up the committee to study aerospace educational facilities in Council president Ralph Danbert said yesterday. If the Centre were located in Winnipeg it would give Manitoba a much needed shot in the Arm for Avia personnel shortage Manitoba has been hard hit by a Lack of trained Avia Tion personnel and prospects for the future have been fairly dim Danbert said. Danbert said he hoped to talk with Mackenzie before the group reports to a worthy june 30. During the same period about new jobs will be created he said. Danbert estimated general aviation will need almost 000 skilled mechanics and tradesmen within five years. Danbert said there is no aviation training program other than flying training in Manitoba. The closest tech Nical training Centre is at Thunder Bay Ontario. Mackenzie s committee will hold its first meeting tomorrow to discuss work ing policy and budget. Air charter firm seeks expansion Art s flying service Ltd. Of White Shell Lake has asked the Canadian transport com Mission to revise its licence to allow for expanded ser vice. Currently the company can Only operate one aircraft in the group a category which is the smallest single engine aircraft. The firm s licence is also restricted to carrying registered guests or employees of big White Shell Lodge with baggage and supplies be tween the Lodge and outpost Camps at 16 Points on the Lake. The company wants the licence amended so it can add any number of aircraft to its Fleet and be allowed to Fly commercial Charters anywhere from a base at White Shell Lake. The transport commission has set april 27 As a deadline for any interventions to the application. Sister Dumesnil has coordinated the French immersion program at Sacre Coeur and has assisted the develop ment of immersion programs in sever Al other Winnipeg schools. Boniface Guimond 74, became a teacher in 1926, and for the next 12 years taught in various native communities. Guimond served two terms on the fort Alexander band Council and later became chief editor of the Council s news bulletin. Since 1972 Guimond has taught native language in fort Alexander and is still an Active member of the band Council. Before her first election to the school Board Margaret Trott helped organize Library services for the armed forces. She has held executive positions in the provincial training commission of the girl guides of Canada from 1970 to 1973. Recently elected for another three year term with the school division Trott is also involved in a Owca program for pregnant girls and in a program for psychiatric care for Dis Turbed youths.
