The Baltimore Sun Warsaw at the Central Post of fice in downtown Warsaw As Welt As at the Airport outside the City there Are mountains of parcels from abroad that did not reach their intended recipients before the Start of the easter Holiday weekend. V the packages belong to people Lucky enough to have a Friend or relative in the West but not so Lucky As to have their packages processed before the Holiday by postal and customs officials swamped with work. The delays have caused a scandal Here and not just the Type of routine scandal about postal inefficiency that gets reported even in communist coun tries. People Are angry because the packages their packages contain food food from places like the United states France West Germany any place where there Are Large polish communities to a country where food is becoming More and More scarce. Almost nine months of economic disruption combined with two bad agricultural years in a Row have caught up with Poland this Spring to make this easter weekend the bleakest in the last 30 years. Long lineups the Long seemingly endless lines in anger the shops the shortages of almost everything the food rationing already begun or about to begin have All worked to sharply temper the Joy and Pride most poles feel in the momentous political events that Are reshaping pol ish society. It was better in 1945 than it is a 70-year-old Warsaw professor who lived through the nazi occupation said not Long ago. The germans took everything from us but still there was somehow enough left the shortages Are hitting especially hard Over easter because they Are depriving poles of the things they like to eat most the hams for which this country is so famous the sugar and Rich creams indispensable to polish baking the chocolate candies for easter baskets the tangy cheeses that used to be so abundant. Yamani also said the saudis still expect to Purchase five advanced elec tronic surveillance aircraft from the United states As part of a package of military plane sales approved by the administration earlier this month. He said he was not aware of Reagan administration attempts to persuade the saudis to delay Purchase of the surveillance planes called Azacs in order to forestall a political fight Over the Sale in Congress. Opposition to the Sale has been Strong in Israel where prime minister Mena chem begin faces a general elec Tion june 30. The Reagan administration reportedly is considering putting off the whole package until Midsummer after the israeli elections or holding Back the Azacs while submit Ting the rest of the package to con Gress. The proposed Deal can be killed if both the Senate and the House vote to disapprove. Yamani said . Refusal to give the surveillance planes to saudi Arabia would be judged in the context of .-saudi relations but he did not suggest any possible repercussions. See stable Page 4 from the news services Manitoba Premier Sterling Lyon has received support from the governments of Quebec and British Columbia in his denunciation of a news report which blamed Lyon and Quebec Premier Rene Levesque for scuttling chances of a Federal provincial Compromise on a striation of the Constitution. Quebec intergovernmental affairs minister Claude Morin told the Canad an press in a Telephone interview sat urday that the Story m the Montreal Gazette is completely false and a total Uke Lyon he said he suspects Federal sources provided information for the article. British Columbia Premier Bill Ben Nett said Lyon and Levesque would be right in calling for an apology from the source of the Story and from those who carried i want to categorically deny Bennett said in a Telephone Call to the Vancouver Sun. He said the premiers never even discussed the question of a charter of rights during their meeting in Ottawa thursday. The meeting then reportedly almost broke up with some premiers threaten ing privately to walk out and change sides joining Trudeau. Instead they went Public with their limited agreement on Canadian control and their amending for Mula knowing full Well that Trudeau would reject it out of hand. Calling it a blatant example of Dishon est the Premier said he is demanding an immediate retraction and apology from the Montreal paper. He said he has also contacted the offices of the seven other first ministers who attended last week s meetings. Discussed during the meeting. He said there was a Secretary present but that there was no written record of what went on. Lyon said the article serves the Case of the Federal government and its constitutional proposals which include the charter of rights. Morin supported Lyon s stand say ing it seems they Are intentionally misinterpreting the discussions which took place Between the pre the Quebec minister added that Federal officials had deliberately misunderstood the agreement. In Montreal a spokesman for the Gazette said the paper will stand by its article.
