But Davis turned him Down the prime minister s office said yesterday Only hours before the commons put the final touches on Trudeau s proposals by voting on the last amendments to it. Davis said in Toronto earlier yester Day he promised the people of Ontario he would never accept recognition of French As an official language of the province s legislature and courts and won t change his mind because he won a majority government in the March 19 provincial election. A spokesman for Trudeau said the prime minister promised Liberal maps Many of whom want official bilingualism extended to Ontario that he would press the Point one last time with Davis before tuesday s deadline for presentation of amendments to his package.
