He said the conservative government has failed to recognize the needs of the local tourism business and said there is evidence of the same Short sighted attitude around the province. But now thousands Are coming to explore it and to the annual Polar Bear and Bird migrations a Caribou Herd which makes its Home there and the Beluga whales which appear just off the coast. Tourism operators and other local residents fear damage to the Tundra s delicate Plant life could upset the Bio logical balance of nature. They criticized the government for cutting Back the number of natural resources department staff stationed in the town at a time when pressure to use the area is growing. But they told Pawley tourism growth is crucial because of reduced use of Federal Harbor facilities for loading Grain and the closing of National de Fence department facilities. The town s population has dropped to about 800 from several years ago.
