Canadian officials said the families were in route to Montreal on easter monday when their bid for safety in Canada was interrupted by an Over zealous customs official in Chicago. The five salvadorans were returned to Mexico City by american officials and were Only hours from being deported to Al Salvador when Canadian officials stepped in. The salvadorans now settled in Mon Treal s St. Leonard District Are Maxi Miliano Sanchez 43, his daughter Ava Margarita 15, and his son Juan Carlos 16, Yolanda Juarez 37, and her Daugh Ter Dora Alicia. Canadian officials say the families were not activists for either Side in the salvadoran conflict the ruling Mili tary Junta backed by the ., or leftists. Canadian officials say the five left Al Salvador during the easter weekend but were stopped by a Customs official at Chicago Airport and ordered to return to their previous Stop Mexico City under detention.
